The Burwood Church Organ

Burwood church organ pipes - 32k The organ is a Gray and Davison organ in the English-romantic style, built originally for St.Deinial's Church, Criccieth, Wales UK in 1887.

It was brought from Wales to Burwood church in 1990 by Pitchford and Garside who had experience with such projects.

The quality of the original construction is patently self evident: the building frame is an immense and solid structure, the soundboards are lavishly condstructed using superb materials (with the Great and Swell divided into two sections), and other components such as the key, stop and combination actions reveal excellence of design and construction.

Burwood church pipe-organ - 32k The organ is housed in a magnificent oak case with carved pipe shades, a central overhanging flat and bright spotted metal front pipes to eight feet. The rear sections of the case are non-pitched pine. The organ is in original condition, although tuning slides have been fitted to many open metal pipes, and a balanced swell pedal and concave-radiating pedalboard were added in 1949.

The strings, flutes and reeds are especially fine, the organ being thoroughly romantic in its tonal concept.
